Kim Cattrall Reportedly Agreed to Appear in ‘And Just Like That…’ on Two Major Conditions

Kim Cattrall is reprising her role as Samantha Jones—but don’t expect any warm, fuzzy reunions on season two of And Just Like That…

According to sources that spoke to Page Six, Cattrall had a couple of conditions before signing on for a “cliffhanger” appearance on Max’s Sex and the City spinoff. Apparently, Cattrall agreed to return as long as she didn’t have to shoot with former co-stars, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis.

That’s not all. Sources also claim Cattrall refused to film if AJLT showrunner Michael Patrick King was on set. “Kim had two stipulations—one, that she would not act with any of the other girls, and two, she did not want to see Michael Patrick King,” one “show source” explained to Page Six.

On May 31, Variety reported that Cattrall would return for a single scene in the season two finale, featuring a phone call between Samantha and SJP’s Carrie Bradshaw, which was filmed in New York in March. Per the report, “Cattrall’s appearance as Samantha will not be a continuation of the character for now.”

This announcement came as a massive surprise to fans for a reason. Kim Cattrall has been swearing off the SATC universe for years. When asked about filming a third movie by The Daily Mail in 2019, she replied, “Never. It’s a no from me.” She continued, “You learn lessons in life, and my lesson is to do work with good people and try and make it fun.”

There was further beef with Parker that made Cattrall’s return seem even more unlikely, which you can read about here. Following the And Just Like That… season one finale, King described a future Cattrall cameo as “magical thinking.”

In February 2022, Parker was asked by Variety whether she’d be comfortable with Cattrall making a return. “I don’t think I would, because I think there’s just too much public history of feelings on her part that she’s shared,” she said. “I haven’t participated in or read articles, although people are inclined to let me know.”

This June, Cattrall confirmed her return on Instagram with the caption, “Happy Pride ?️‍??️‍⚧️?…..”
