Kiernan Shipka & Olivia Holt Take On A Murderer In “Totally Killer” Trailer

Kiernan Shipka and Olivia Holt are joining forces to take down a murderer in Amazon Prime’s new original horror movieTotally Killer.

For anyone who wants to see a Back To The Future-inspired horror movie, they are about to get their wish. Kiernan Shipka stars as Jamie, a girl who ends up traveling back in time to 1987 to prevent a series of serial killer attacks.

Jamie had known about the murders given her mother Pam’s history and that Pam’s friends had died at the hands of the killer. Armed with the knowledge of the future, Jamie must prevent the murders from returning home.

While the plot is far darker than Marty’s journey to save his family’s existence in the present day, it does share the similarity in Jamie growing a bond with her teenage mother (Olivia Holt).

The trailer for Totally Killer sees the film following the trend of comedy-horror films that embrace both genres in a way that delivers various scares while still poking fun at the tropes that come from scary movies.

Horror movies have been known to become predictable when they take themselves too seriously, following the same tropes that have a habit of getting the main characters killed. The trailer for Totally Killer suggests that this movie knows that and plans to deviate from those tropes by having the characters directly call them out, which Jamie does at least once in the trailer.

Horror movies that understand the stakes but still know how to crack a joke and make the circumstances and reactions to events funny are a welcome fresh air to the horror movie genre, which can become very dark.

So, will Jamie achieve her goal to save her mother and end the killer’s run? Or will things go wrong?

Totally Killer premieres on Amazon Prime on Friday, October 6, 2023.
