Amid news that several Marvel productions including Deadpool 3 were shutting down production due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Marvel head Kevin Feige has called the situation “disappointing”.
In a memo to Marvel staff, however, Feige and and producer Louis D’Esposito reaffirmed their appreciation for filmmakers.

“We recognize how much you’ve all done on your specific projects and it’s disappointing when carefully laid plans have to shift, but constant change is the nature of the production business, and our teams are no stranger to unexpected challenges and rising to meet them,” the duo said. “We deeply appreciate all your efforts to make the best of the situation, and we can all hope that a new agreement will be finalized soon so we can resume the great work we have in process.”

Marvel is well-known for planning their releases well in advance in order to lay out the story they want to tell. The last year, however, has been an especially difficult one.

Following the mixed reactions to Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder, as well as the box office disappointment of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Disney CEO Bob Iger has frequently spoken about the need to slow Marvel’s release schedule down.
Subsequently, nearly every one of Marvel’s upcoming films were delayed, including Avengers: Secret Wars, which now won’t hit theaters until 2027.

With both the writers and actors now on strike, and both sides being far apart on issues such as residuals and AI, Hollywood is bracing for an extended shutdown.
