Kelly Clarkson is clearing things up in regard to the comments she made about the coverage the NFL has given to the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce romance.
The singer made some remarks on her daytime talk show about the wall-to-wall reporting every NFL broadcast has whenever the “Shake It Off” singer makes an appearance to support Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs. Following the show, reports said Clarkson had “bashed” the romance but the “Breakaway” singer is denying she did.
“Just a quick public service announcement everybody since this seems to be breaking news… Do not fall prey to clickbait, trash reporters twisting the facts again. I did not bash anyone’s romance,” Clarkson wrote in a statement she shared on Instagram.
Clarkson continued, “I am pro romance. Yay romance Did y’all even watch what I actually said on my show? I just said I want to watch football when I tune in to watch football. Seems an appropriate request. Okay, carry on, and GO COWBOYS!”
The NFL has been getting a lot of criticism for their coverage on Swift and Kelce that Saturday Night Live made a spoof about it during their season premiere. SNL star Bowen Yang made an appearance on Clarkson’s talk show where they talked about the sketch, which the singer found “hilarious” but not so much the actual coverage.
“It’s not hilarious how it is literally taking over the NFL for people that like watching sports now,” she said. “It’s like you’re watching ‘Housewives’ while you’re watching.”
The NFL itself released a statement defending its coverage of the couple saying, “We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally. The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real-time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport.”
