Keke Palmer’s creative scope knows virtually no bounds. As an established actress, musician and producer, she’s now added podcast host to her impressive resume. For Palmer, her “Baby, This is Keke Palmer” podcast has become her “own little talk show in itself.”

“I had my own talk show before, but with a podcast, people want to get into real discussions, conversations and topics,” Palmer explained at the Variety Studio presented by Canva at Cannes Lions. “I’ve been loving being able to dive into deeper conversations. It’s really cool to talk to experts in their fields, especially when I want to talk about stuff dealing with interpersonal relationships, forgiving your parents and depression.”

Palmer, too, hails as the founder of KeyTV, a platform she attributes to spreading her “initial individual brand” to “create opportunities” for other creatives. “I’ve been in the industry for 20 years now, and you get to the point where it’s like, ‘How can I evolve this past me? If Keke Palmer is Mickey Mouse, then how can I be the Walt?’”

Palmer highlighted that Tyler Perry is a huge “inspiration” to her. “I love what Tyler Perry has done,” says Palmer. “I look at people like Brian Robbins and people that are creatives that figured out a way to make it open to everyone. I want to be able to do that same thing — I want to help other people find their path as an individual content creator.”

For Palmer, she points out that investing in projects that “my generation wants to hear” is at the top of her priorities. “I just want to give young millennials, Gen Z and people of color an opportunity to tell unique stories that a lot of people in the traditional space would not even know that we would be interested in hearing,” says Palmer.
