Another story about the kindness of Keanu Reeves has emerged, this one dating back three decades. Shortly after this year’s Cannes Film Festival concluded, Kate Beckinsale took to Instagram to share a photo of herself at the event in 1993. The image features the actress standing in between Reeves and fellow actor Robert Sean Leonard, and while at first glance it would seem that everything is going just fine at that moment, Beckinsale’s story behind the photo reveals what was really happening at the time the picture was taken.
In the caption of the Instagram post, Beckinsale laments how the Dr. Martens footwear she had at the time can’t be seen in the image. With that said, she details the full story behind the photo, revealing that she was actually very close to having a wardrobe malfunction on the Cannes red carpet. Fortunately, as Beckinsale explains, Reeves and Leonard were there to nonchalantly help keep her outfit together, doing so in such a way that no one would have even known.
As Beckinsale recalls:
“I had bought the bodysuit in the Sock Shop at the airport and when I got in the car to drive to the premiere with Denzel and Pauletta Washington, all the poppers in the crotch popped themselves open and it flipped up like a roller blind. I didn’t feel it was appropriate to go delving around in my undercarriage with all of us in the back of the car so I just quietly panicked. Walked out onto the biggest red carpet of my life and whispered to Keanu and Robert Sean Leonard what had happened. In this picture I am holding the front gusset down and the two of them are holding the back gusset. Absolute legends who may not even have fully understood the physics of what was happening or even heard the word ‘gusset’ before, but both jumped in to save me no questions asked.”

Kate Beckinsale Can Be Seen in Prisoner’s Daughter
In 1993, Beckinsale had attended the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of the Kenneth Branagh film Much Ado About Nothing. The film also stars Reeves, Leonard, Michael Keaton, Emma Thompson, and Denzel Washington. It was a hit at the box office and pulled in strong reviews from critics, widely regarded as among the best of the feature films based on William Shakespeare literature.
More recently, Beckinsale starred in the film Prisoner’s Daughter alongside Succession star Brian Cox. The film previously premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and will have a wider release on June 30. In the movie, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, Beckinsale plays a woman whose imprisoned father attempts to reconnect with her following a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Beckinsale also appears in Charlie Day’s new film, Fool’s Paradise, alongside Day, Ken Jeong, Adrien Brody, Edie Falco, Jason Sudeikis, and Jason Bateman. She is also set to star in the upcoming action movie Canary Black from director Pierre Morel.
