Jung Kook Surprises Times Square Crowd With A Free Concert – Deadline

He’s got a new album that’s already spawned a No. 1 hit. So Jung Kook decided to give back to his fans (and, of course, draw attention to his new album) with a free concert Thursday night in Times Square.

The 26-year-old BTS star delivered from the stage at TSX Entertainment in Times Square, using the first permanent stage in the heart of the city. Jung Kook performed several songs from new album, Golden. The show was announced just a few hours before the appearance, which undoubtedly helped keep the scene manageable.

A countdown to the start of the show New Year’s Eve style then saw Jung Kook emerge on the TSX Stage surrounded by dancers.

“Let’s have fun,” he shouted, then opened with track “Standing Next to You.”

Fans who were not in New York could watch the show on the BTS YouTube channel or an Xbox Twitch livestream. One report said that more than 280,000 viewers watched from home.

“This place is amazing. It’s an honor to perform in New York’s Times Square,” Jung Kook said before performing “Yes Or No.”

“The view is incredible,” Jung Kook added at one point, then dived into songs “3D,” “Please Don’t Change,” and “Seven,” his No. 1 track with Latto.

Fans tuned in from Xbox’s Twitch channel had the chance to win custom Jung Kook Xbox Series X consoles, and also score themselves Game Pass codes to play their next favorite game

“We are honored to co-create this historic moment for Jung Kook and the entire BTS group,” said TSX Entertainment co-CEO Nick Holmsten in a press statement. “His solo journey has already made history with multiple chart-topping singles, and we’re fully confident that this album will continue the trend. This marks a pivotal moment in music, particularly for K-Pop fans, and holds great significance for both Times Square and New York City.”
