The Joker has had many redesigns over the years, but one of the most common looks he keeps returning to is actually wearing a version of the Batsuit.
Warning! Contains spoilers for Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #5!Many DC Universe characters who have worked with or for Batman have donned their own Batsuit, but one of the most surprising characters who have a history of wearing a Batsuit is none other than the Joker.
The Joker has been one of Batman’s longest and most recurring enemies. Whenever there is a major event in Batman’s life, it is almost always tied to the Joker. And just like Batman, over the years of their fighting, Joker has continually updated his appearance, but one of the Joker’s strangest fashion choices is how he keeps on wearing Batsuits. This was most recently seen by readers in Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #5 by Matthew Rosenberg and Carmine Di Giandomenico.
While searching for one of his former safe houses, the Joker drops in on Mad Hatter terrorizing some children. Wearing a homemade Batsuit, Joker crashes through a window and says, “Hello, evildoer. It’s me. Bat-Man.” This isn’t the first time Joker has worn a Batsuit; it’s actually a trend, and this latest one might be his best one yet.
Joker Wears A New Batsuit
Joker wearing a Batsuit isn’t exactly a new thing for him. In the 2019 one-shot Year of the Villain: Joker by John Carpenter, Anthony Burch and Philip Tan, Joker can be seen taking to the streets in a store-bought Batman costume. Later in Batman #99 by James Tynion IV and Jorge Jimenez, during the finale of the Joker War story arc, Joker dons his own Batsuit to mock Batman’s idea that he’ll ever be anything other than a Dark Knight watching over a corrupt city. The Clown Prince of Crime stealing Batman’s ideas isn’t exactly new; Joker has had his own twist on batarangs in the past, and he took it upon himself to patrol the streets of Gotham City during the City of Bane storyline. But this newest Batsuit stands out from his previous ones in one major way. The Batsuit from Joker War was stolen from Wayne Tech and the one from Year of the Villain: Joker was store-bought, but the one Joker is wearing in this latest issue appears to be homemade, which is why it’s Joker’s perfect Batsuit.
The fact that Joker seems to have created his own Batsuit should be an absolutely terrifying idea. When Joker stole Batman’s, he was at least limited to what a suit used by Batman would be able to do. As in, it was unlikely to have anything lethal in its utility belt. The Joker is a genius of invention, having created lethal shock buzzers, flowers that spray acid, his own Joker Toxin, and Joker even created the Jokermobile, a twisted version of the Batmobile. All of this goes to show that Joker has every ability to make a suit significantly more dangerous than any Batsuit, which is why the fact this new suit appears to be homemade is so terrifying, it could have literally anything inside those pouches.
Joker’s Batsuit Is A Major Wild Card
While the Joker is often known for wearing his iconic green and purple suit, it’s not the only bit of fashion he seems to gravitate towards. For whatever reason, he seems to like wearing the same outfits as Batman, and one day Joker might have just as many utilities and gadgets to go along with the new suit.
