film•raderie is proud to announce their inaugural event, The Future on Film, to be presented virtually on April 15, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. PST – 1:30 p.m. PST. The conference will focus on futurism and world-building in film, TV, and new media, specifically detailing how science and storytelling intersect in our ever-evolving content landscape. The conference will include a keynote address followed by two exciting, industry-filled panels.

The event will begin with a keynote address from speaker Ted Schilowitz (Futurist-in-Residence, Paramount Pictures) and Darrien Michele Gipson (Executive Director, Film-Raderie) to discuss his unique insight into the future of tech and entertainment and how storytellers can take inspiration from the scientific discoveries around them. Following this, moderator Ryan Silbert (author/filmmaker) will conduct the ‘Envisioning the Future’ panel where NASA scientists and storytellers discuss the benefits of research and what we can learn from the new frontiers of space exploration and tech. Panelists will include Swati Mohan (Jet Propulsion Laboratory), Michelle Thaller (NASA), and Nicole Perlman (screenwriter, “Guardians of the Galaxy”).

After a short break, moderator Eric Molinsky (Host, Imaginary Worlds Podcast) will host the second panel, ‘Designing the Future’, with film creatives highlighting their inspirations behind the futuristic worlds they’ve built, from costumes to visual effects to production design and beyond. Panelists will include Jeff Desom (VFX, “Everything Everywhere All at Once”), Gersha Phillips (Costume Designer, “Star Trek: Discovery”) and Alexandra Schaller (Production Designer, “After Yang”).
