Lionsgate’s “John Wick: Chapter 4” is coming in ahead of already lofty projections.
The Keanu Reeves-led action epic has reportedly pulled in $30 million on Friday, easily the best opening day ever for a “John Wick” movie and readying the film for a franchise record stateside debut.
In fact, that amount, which includes just under $9 million in Thursday previews is equal to the entire opening weekend of “John Wick: Chapter 2” back in 2017. As such the fourth ‘Wick’ is on track to hit above $70 million for the weekend.
That’s well above the $14 million the first scored in 2014, the $30.4 million the second landed in 2017, and the $56.8 million the third landed in 2019. Going into the week the film was tracking for a debut of around $60 million so it’s performing better than the studio had hoped.
More telling is that the film’s reviews just keep getting better. The Rotten Tomatoes critics score sits as 96% certified fresh whilst the audience score stands at 97%.
The fourth installment also boasts the largest price tag of the franchise, costing more than $100 million to produce, but it is easily expected to finish with the highest total of the series to date – above the $328.3 million global haul of the third.
