The master of horror is back!
In surprising news for genre fans and the film industry alike, it has been confirmed that Halloween’s John Carpenter has returned to the director’s chair. The legendary filmmaker will direct one episode of Suburban Screams, an upcoming anthology horror series for streaming service Peacock. Intriguingly, the series has been described as “unscripted” in a lengthy press release discussing the 6-episode project.
“In a genre-busting unscripted horror anthology series from the mind of legendary director, writer, and producer, John Carpenter, we explore the dark secrets and unspeakable evil that sometimes lurks beneath the surface of the sun-drenched streets, manicured lawns, and friendly neighbors of suburbia. Each episode focuses on one true tale of terror, told by the real people who lived through it. Their firsthand accounts are brought to life through premium cinematic scene-work, news clips, home photos, and archival footage, combining the visual language of horror films with the tools and techniques of documentaries, creating a uniquely frightening experience for viewers.”
“Each episode will delve into the monstrous evil that lurks beneath the surface of friendly suburbia through the lens of one frightful tale. In addition to firsthand accounts, the episodes will include cinematic reenactments, personal archives, and historic town press coverage.”
Exciting stuff, indeed! Whilst the current release statements give no hint as to plots of each episode, we do have a short but tantalising teaser trailer that you can view below.
Suburban Screams will also see Carpenter producing the series alongside his wife Sandy King, as well as acting as composer.
The first episode is set to premiere on Peacock on Friday October 13th and will continue through the Halloween festivities, adding yet more frights to a packed fall horror season!
Welcome back to the chair John! We sure have missed you.
