Your eyes do not deceive you. Joe Pesci is making a rare acting return, opposite Pete Davidson no less. Our first look at “Bupkis” has arrived.
The Oscar-winning Pesci plays Davidson’s grandfather in the upcoming Peacock comedy series, which chronicles a heightened, fictionalized version of Pete Davidson’s real life. Combining grounded storytelling with “absurd elements from the unfiltered and completely original worldview for which Pete is well known,” the series is written by, starring and executive produced by the “SNL” alum.
Pesci was last seen onscreen in 2019’s “The Irishman,” for which director Martin Scorsese worked hard to pull the “Goodfellas” actor out of retirement. Before that film, Pesci had not been seen onscreen since 2010’s “Love Ranch,” which was preceded by 2006’s “The Good Shepherd.”
Production is underway on “Bupkis,” which also stars Edie Falco as Davidson’s mom.
Davidson previously mined his personal life for the 2020 film “The King of Staten Island,” which was a dramedy loosely inspired by his own life story and starred Marisa Tomei as his mother. Dave Sirus, who co-wrote “King of Staten Island” with Davidson, is a writer and executive producer on “Bupkis” alongside showrunner, writer and executive producer Judah Miller (“Crashing”).
Lorne Michaels will executive produce for Broadway Video, Andrew Singer and Erin David are also executive producers. Jason Orley will direct and co-executive produce. The series – which does not yet have a release date – comes from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Broadway Video.
