Joe Keery Describes Stranger Things Ending as “Bittersweet”

Joe Keery, the actor who plays Steve Harrington, expressed his mixed emotions about Stranger Things ending during a panel at German Comic Con. Stranger Things has become a cultural phenomenon since it premiered on Netflix in 2016. The show has captivated audiences with its blend of 80s nostalgia, supernatural thrills, and heartfelt character moments. Over the course of four seasons, fans have grown to love the characters of the Hawkins gang, including Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max. These characters have faced incredible challenges together, from battling Demogorgons and Mind Flayers to saving the world from the Upside Down time and time again. Now, as the show enters its fifth and final season, the Hawkins gang comes together for one last fight against Vecna.

During the panel, Keery described the experience as “bittersweet,” expressing his excitement about returning to work but acknowledging that it would also be the start of the last of many things. Keery’s sentiments echoed those of many fans who have grown attached to the show’s characters and world, and who will be sad to see the show come to an end.

“It’s going to be bittersweet, for sure,” Keery said. “I think everybody’s excited to start working again, but it’ll be like the first time of a lot of last things, as well. It’ll be very bittersweet.”

Netflix Announces New Animated and Live-Action Spin-Off for Stranger Things

Netflix

With the fifth season of the flagship show set to be the last, fans have been eager to know what’s next for the Stranger Things universe. Netflix has announced that a new animated series set in the same world is in the works, set to expand the story of the Upside-Down in exciting new ways. While details about the new series are still scarce, the show is set to be based on classic Saturday morning cartoons, promising plenty of running around and incoherent logic, albeit with the intricately plotted and thought-out approach that audiences have come to expect. The Duffer Brothers, creators of Stranger Things, released a statement expressing their excitement about the new animated.

“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling. We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…”

The Boroughs, an upcoming Netflix series, is another highly-anticipated project from Matt and Ross Duffer. The show’s premise is set in a picturesque retirement community in the New Mexico desert, where a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing time. Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews will serve as showrunners for the series, bringing their unique vision to the project. Netflix is hoping that The Boroughs will become the next big hit in the supernatural mystery genre, following the success of Stranger Things. The streaming service has given the show an eight-episode order.

Stranger Things season 5 is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2024.
