Jessie Buckley On Career And ‘Women Talking’ — The Actor’s Side – Deadline

Jessie Buckley was nominated Wednesday for a SAG Award as part of the ensemble of Sarah Polley’s extraordinary film Women Talking. She is also up for two Critics Choice Awards on Sunday for the same film including for Best Supporting Actress. She recently won the Olivier Award for her performance as Sally Bowles in the London revival of Cabaret opposite Eddie Redmayne. Last year, she received her first Oscar nomination for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter.

Buckley’s work since her 2017 breakout role in Beast has made her one of the top new talents of her generation. That work includes her BAFTA-nominated role as a country singer in Wild Rose and such high-profile projects as the Emmy-winning Chernobyl, Season 4 of Fargo, Charlie Kaufman’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things and so much more. Not bad for a young woman who entered a 2008 BBC talent competition to be in a stage production of Oliver and came in second, but with no big ambitions beyond that until it all happened, and continues to happen.

She joins me for this week’s edition of my Deadline video series The Actor’s Side where she talks about all of it — where she’s been, where she is now, and where she is headed. Straight to the top, if you ask me.
