Decades ago, the world’s heart broke when Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez called off their engagement. Or maybe you didn’t have an opinion back then, that’s fine. But when the pair got back together post-divorces, post-kids, post-phoenix tattoo, the question lingered: would they make it down the aisle this time?
It’s unclear if an actual aisle was involved, but the pair have officially obtained a marriage license in Las Vegas, according to E! News. In the court filing, which TMZ reports was processed on July 16, Jennifer Lopez asks for her name to be legally changed to “Jennifer Affleck.” A marriage certificate has not been filed yet and Bennifer has yet to comment on the news.
“It was super, super small,” a source told People of the ceremony. “[Jennifer’s] mom and kids were there. They just wanted to be married so they got married.”
The pair got engaged (again) in April 2022. After Lopez was spotted wearing a ring on that finger, the singer teased a “major announcement” on Twitter. “So I have a really exciting story to share. So if you’re not part of my inner circle, you have to go to onthejlo.com to hear this one,” she said in a video on April 8. “I don’t know if you guys know what that is, but it is my inner circle where I share my more personal things and this one’s definitely on the JLo.” On April 8, those subscribed to OntheJLo.com were treated to a video of the singer tearfully admiring a large green engagement ring. A rep for Lopez confirmed to People that the couple did, indeed, get engaged.

In February 2022, Lopez opened up about what was different in her renewed relationship. Speaking to Rolling Stone, the Marry Me star said that she doesn’t see a breakup in her future with Affleck, despite their past. “I don’t think we would have got back together if we thought that was where it was headed,” she said. “We feel like what we found again is so much more important, and how we protect that and how we live our lives—what to share, what not to share—is the balance that we have now, the benefit of experience and the wisdom that we gained over the years.”
