Apple TV+’s upcoming series The Last Thing He Told Me throws Jennifer Garner into a web of lies that she must untangle after her husband goes missing.
The series follows Hannah (played by Garner), a woman who must forge a relationship with her sixteen-year-old stepdaughter Bailey (Angourie Rice) in order to find the truth about why her husband has mysteriously disappeared.
The latest trailer for the series, which was released Thursday, begins with Garner’s Hannah asking her husband Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) what defines him. “There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for my daughter,” he replies. Soon after, the doorbell rings and a young girl hands Hannah a note, supposedly from Owen, which reads “Protect her.”
She tries unsuccessfully to reach her husband and has little to say when Bailey asks where he’s gone. As Hannah begins to unravel the mystery, she realizes that Owen has been keeping secrets from both her and Bailey, and now they’re left to find him or potentially face the consequences alone.

The series is produced for Apple by Hello Sunshine, who optioned the book from author Laura Dave and serves as the studio on the project with 20th Television. Olivia Newman directs the pilot episode, and the all-female director lineup for the series includes Deniz Gamze Erguven, Daisy Von Scherler Mayer, and Lila Neugebauer.
Created and adapted by Laura Dave and Josh Singer, The Last Thing He Told Me marks the first collaboration between the married couple, who both serve as executive producers alongside Garner and Hello Sunshine’s Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter.
The Last Thing He Told Me premieres globally on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes on Friday, April 14 followed by new episodes every Friday through May 19.
