Jason Statham's 127-Minute Action Epic Sets New Streaming Release Date

Jason Statham in a video game adaption? You wouldn’t think so, especially when the movie is set in a medieval fantasy realm, but that’s exactly what happened in 2007 when The Stath took on the role of a man whose quiet life is shattered when the kingdom he lives in is attacked by savage humanoid creatures. It all sounds so weird, which is pretty much par for the course when you realize it was directed by Uwe Boll. Now, nearly 20 years after its release, the action epic has just set a new streaming release date.

Released in Germany in 2007 before making its way to the United States the following year, In the Name of the King is based on the forgotten 2002 fantasy role-playing game, Dungeon Siege. Clocking in at 2hrs and 7 minutes, Statham stars as a character literally known as Farmer. Living a quiet life with his wife Solana and their young son in the kingdom of Ehb, things take a turn for the worse when the realm is attacked by the Krugs, savage humanoid creatures controlled by the evil wizard Gallian (played by Ray Liotta in another bizarre bit of casting).

When his son is killed and his wife kidnapped during the attack, Farmer becomes a reluctant hero as he sets out to find her and get revenge on the Krugs, Gallian, and all involved in the mayhem. However, he soon finds himself caught between King Konreid, played by none other than Burt Reynolds (no, really), and those attempting to overthrow him.

Featuring forest nymphs, magic, dragon-type creatures and lots of action, In the Name of the King is pretty much Statham being the same Statham he’s been in all of his movies, but with a sword in his hand instead of a gun. Farmer is tough, physically imposing, and communicates as only the English actor can by using terse sentences with a few good one-liners thrown in during combat for good measure.

Also starring Matthew Lillard, Ron Perlman, John Rhys-Davies, Leelee Sobieski, and Claire Forlani (talk about an eclectic bunch), In the Name of the King was a bona fide bomb when it was released in 2007, earning just $13 million against a $60 million production budget. It is Statham’s lowest-rated movie across the board on Rotten Tomatoes, as it earned just 4% from critics, and 23% from viewers. Unapologetically cheesy, the film has earned a small cult following over the years, if for nothing more than seeing Statham out of his element in a fantastical setting.

‘In the Name of the King’ Will Be Free to Stream Next Month

Currently available to stream with a subscription to either Prime Video or Hulu, In the Name of the King recently set a new free streaming release date, meaning it won’t cost you anything but a few ad breaks to see Statham’s wild fantasy action epic. The movie will be added to Tubi on Sept 1, 2026, along with the likes of Men in Black, Brendan Frasier’s The Mummy, and the Johnny Depp gothic classic, Sleepy Hollow.

Next up for Statham is the action thriller titled Mutiny, which hits theaters later this month on Aug. 21. Following that, you can look for the action star to return as Adam Clay in The Beekeeper 2, which is slated to be released on Jan. 15, 2027.
