Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto teases where James Gunn may feature Jaime Reyes next in the DC Universe after his solo movie. As the DCEU comes to an end this year, one character who will continue his adventure in Gunn’s DC Universe is Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle, as he brought the iconic Latino superhero to the big screen this summer. With multiple DC Universe movies and TV shows currently in the works, the potential for Blue Beetle’s future is endless.
During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant to promote the upcoming Blue Beetle Blu-Ray/DVD home release, Soto talked about the future of Jaime and where audience members may see him after the film. When elaborating about the Blue Beetle post-credits scene, Soto confirmed that he has talked with James Gunn about where it might lead and how it may involve none other than Booster Gold himself:
Yeah, we have had conversations about it and that’s where he mentioned to me about the Booster Gold TV show that is coming up. Now, where does it fit, how is it gonna play out? We haven’t talked about that. But we both have talked about our interest in continuing Jaime’s story, and finding a way for that story to be a part of this new universe.
How Blue Beetle’s Post-Credit Scenes Set Up The Booster Gold TV Show
While he doesn’t appear physically in the movie, Blue Beetle establishes the existence of Ted Kord, who was the second hero to carry the name before Jaime got the Scarab. In this story, Ted is Jenny’s biological father, who went missing years ago, and it’s unclear for most of the movie if he’s died or not. However, during the Blue Beetle post-credits scene, a recording starts getting broadcast in Ted’s lab, with the voice saying that he is still alive.
With Ted’s whereabouts being a massive mystery, this storyline sets up the Booster Gold TV show in a very organic way while also paving the way for one of DC Comics’ most iconic dynamics to come to life. Since Booster Gold will center around time travel, the Max series could reveal that Ted is actually lost in time, perhaps even stuck in Booster’s timeline, and it will be up to the futuristic hero to bring him back to the present. As Booster Gold navigates himself through the 21st century, Ted could, in many ways, serve as his guide while also being a key player in the TV show.
Booster Gold is also the perfect DC Universe project to feature Jaime after the events of Blue Beetle, allowing the young hero to also come into contact with Ted as they are now sharing a legacy together. It’s exciting to know that Gunn and Soto have already had conversations about Blue Beetle’s future within the larger DC Universe, especially as the movie was one of the more well-received DC entries in 2023. For now, the world can relive Blue Beetle on Blu-Ray and DVD starting on October 31 or through Digital Download.
