James Gunn Gives Update On Casting New Batman Actor For The DC Universe

DC Studios boss and filmmaker James Gunn gives updates on the search for the new Bruce Wayne in the DC Universe’s upcoming Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Warner Bros. Discovery is starting over with their cinematic universe based on the DC Comics properties. As the DCEU ends this summer with The Flash movie, Gunn and Peter Safran are crafting a new DC Universe, which will have more interconnectivity across TV and film. DC Studios are currently working on Chapter 1, “Gods and Monsters,” which will properly begin with Superman: Legacy.

One of the projects that is in the works is Batman: The Brave and The Bold, which will feature a new iteration of the Caped Crusader. As Gunn has been providing updates about various DC Universe TV shows and movies on social media, one fan inquired about how old Bruce Wayne will be in this particular franchise. Gunn responded that they have not even cast Batman yet, meaning they don’t know yet what age he will be in the DC Universe.

It is unclear if they have even started casting for Batman yet or have any actors in mind for who they want to tap as the new Dark Knight. Gunn didn’t specify when they are actually going to start casting for Batman: The Brave and The Bold.

What Type Of Actor Is DC Studios Looking For With Batman?

The Superman: Legacy casting department is looking to tap a version of Clark Kent who will be in his 20s in this incarnation. However, based on Gunn’s past comments, there will be seemingly various DC heroes already established in this franchise. That raises some questions about this world’s Batman and what type of actor they might be looking to cast for the DC Universe.

Since Batman: The Brave and The Bold will focus on a version of Bruce who will be a father, this is clearly a Dark Knight who is far along in his journey as a crime fighter. Based on that notion alone, whoever gets tapped as Batman will likely be in his 30s-40s at the very least. That would make the most sense since this will be an incarnation of Batman who is surrounded by an established Bat-Family.

It will be interesting to see who they tap as Batman for the DC Universe, especially in contrast to the actors who have previously played the iconic DC hero. But given that the Batman reboot doesn’t even have a release date or a director attached, it may be a while until they get around to casting their new Dark Knight. Hopefully, more details about Batman: The Brave and The Bold will emerge later this year.
