SPOILERS AHEAD FOR JACK RYAN SEASON 3 EPISODE 6
Jack returns to the states where he is met on an airfield by Greer, It’s the reunion you’ve been waiting for, Jack and Greer are back working together, and although Jack is still a target for Miller, he’s got the support of the US Embassy in the Czech Republic. Greer still doesn’t trust Luka, but Jack would be dead without him. Greer informs Jack that Elizabeth has been taken off field duty, but after what she has done for the two of them their relationship is far from over.
As for where where Luka is, he has delivered the bomb to the Czech Republic, but is dissapointed to learn the person in charge has not showed up. Jack still believes he was being selfish having known the Sokol plan all this time but choosing to stay quiet, but he still chooses to trust him.
Once Jack is at the Embassy in the Czech Republic, Greer starts counting down.
Jack makes sure he is spotted by the cameras, because they know Miller will be watching and sending his men to seize Jack, but Jack is two steps ahead of them. Greer’s team is tracking Luka’s possible locations but the CIA shows up, with the help of Greer, a decoy, Mike and the local authorities who arrest them on orders of President Kovak herself, before Miller’s men can, Jack escapes.
While this transpires, Radek’s wife and child who are in poland are arrested, by president Kovak it turns out, as she wants to question Radek’s wife for information about where her father and the bomb might be.
When Miller’s CIA goons try to arrest Greer, he puts it in simple terms, “You guys really have no idea what the hell is going on do you?”, is that a shadow of doubt we see on the CIA’s face? Cut to a long overdue meeting between Jack Ryan and President Alena Kovac, who asks him to tell her everything he knows, and of course, he obliges.
Switch to Elizabeth receiving an anonymous package in the mail, which contains some very important information foe later on in the episode. She then reaches out to a General Ramos with a message from Greer calling in a favour.
The device is now ready for transport and to detonate, and is loaded onto a truck. Meanwhile Jack is in the process of figuring out the target, and he figures out the bomb is headed for a moving target, the NATO convoy, which makes things all the more complicated.
Back in the Embassy, Greer has finally convinced the CIA leaded tasked with bringing in Jack that he has in fact been telling the truth and just as they do, everything goes on high alert, but not before Greer’s team finally finds Petr’s real identity. As we brieflly saw in flashbacks in the previous episode he was a Russian soldier at Matoksa, but his last name was Lebedev, he killed someone and took his place and name.
Everything suddenly shifts into hight gear as we see Jack and Mike in a helicopter above the convoy communiicating with the Officer in charge getting ready for as Greer calls it, a “shit show”. When they enter a tunnel, the president mentions that the route they are on takes them through a town, Jack then realizes the town on Nymburk was the intended target. Everyone is now scrambling a way to stop the nuke from hitting the truck, but Jack comes up with a different plan.
Speaking of reunions, Luka is finally reunited with Petr Lebedev, the man in charge of bringing back Sokol. When Luka admits that he mourned Lebedev, the two have an emotional and tense moment, but it’s not until Petr reveals he’s known all along that Luka was a double agent that things get really intense.
When Jack sees the truck he figures out a way to stop it by trapping the truck and containing the explosion
in a tunnel. They stop one of the convoy trucks in the tunnel, kill all the power in the tunnel and then the rest of the convoy exists as quickly as possible, but when two officers are stuck behind Jack jumps in a truck that made it out and goes back for them, just as they are about to make it out, the Sokol bomb hits the empty convoy truck and explodes causing the tunnel to collapse. Jack and the 2 soldiers he saved are flung off the side of the road, but they’re alive.
Tensions continue to rise between Petr and Luka, as Luka Ominously asks, “don’t you think I know, about cross bow?”, in that moment we see Russian snipers take out Petr’s guards, and when Petr tries to shoot Luka, he shoots him in the leg. When Alena arrives, she lets Petr succumb to his wounds, and he does not survive this episode.
Back at Washington DC, at the White House briefing, a very annoyed Prime Minister asks the situation room “I’m trying to figure out how the hell we didn’t know what was going on over there”, to which a familiar face, General Ramos replies “Actually we did sir”. He then goes on to brief him about how Jack Ryan knew about everything that was going on and all of this could have been avoided but his own agency was pursuing him using footage from the Embassy in the Czech Republic. Thanks to this Elizabeth was reinstated and put back in charge of the case.
The episode ends with the team, Luka and President Kovak lesving on a plane to Moscow. Jack is still worried about Luka’s allegiance, he questions why he didn’t stop it all back in Matoksa. To which Luka assures Jack there is all part of the plan. Jack goes on to say “What’s our response? Cause I don’t have anything. No plans, no leads, nothing.” Luka simply replies, “You have me.”
This episode got an absolute wow from me. This was a heart racing episode, from chasing Jack Ryan to to chasing a nuke. With a race against the clock to literally save lives, the way this episode was concluded was so satisfying. It gave off finale vibes, and then you remember oh wait, were not done yet. Another great episode, but I’m guessing Jack isn’t out of the dark yet.
