It’s officially been a decade since Taylor Swift attended the Met Gala, but that might change on May 4, 2026.
Taylor Swift’s history with the Met Gala runs deep, having attended the event five times before serving as cochair for her final appearance in 2016. That evening not only marked her first red-carpet appearance with her Vogue-curated platinum blonde, but it’s also rumored to be the night she met both ex-boyfriends Tom Hiddleston and Joe Alwyn, potentially marking May 2, 2016, as one of the most pivotal dates in Swift’s lore. Don’t believe me? Check out the lyrics to “Dress” and then come back here.
Since that date, Swift released seven studio albums, rerecorded nearly her entire discography, regained ownership over her masters, and fell in love with her fiancé, Travis Kelce. With so much changing in the past decade, now would be the perfect time for her to reclaim her position as a Met Gala mainstay.
This year’s “Costume Art” theme is particularly well-suited for the 36-year-old pop star, as guests are invited to “express their own relationship to fashion as an embodied art form and celebrate the countless depictions of the dressed body throughout art history.” Considering how much thought Swift puts into her own tour costumes—as well as planting Easter eggs in her day-to-day looks—this would be the perfect opportunity to wrap up her Life of a Showgirl era before her upcoming wedding.
And while we’re not the keepers of Taylor Swift’s schedule, she was last seen in New York City on April 27, making her appearance at the event all the more likely.
The other remaining question is whether or not Swift would walk the Met steps with Travis Kelce. While the Kansas City Chiefs kicked off training camp on April 20, we know the man loves a white-tie moment. Still, Swift may see this as another opportunity for a highly photogenic girls night out.
After all, this wouldn’t be the first time Swift has hit the red carpet to support Met Gala 2026 co-chair Beyoncé, nor is she likely to pass up a night out with this particular host committee, which includes longtime friend Lena Dunham and Sabrina Carpenter. One thing is for sure, the Met bathroom photos would be epic.
