Is James Gunn Teasing a Wonder Woman Animated Series?

More than a month has passed since James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the first projects that will be part of the first phase of the new DCU, entitled Gods and Monsters. Since then, theories and rumors have been an everyday thing on the internet, and Gunn continues to constantly respond to fan inquiries, questions, and requests about what’s to come in the franchise’s future.

A few weeks ago, the director confirmed that Creature Commandos, one of the projects included in the announcements, is one of the most advanced productions. It is an animated series that will introduce these peculiar characters, and it may not be the only project of this type that will arrive soon.

Through his Twitter account, Gunn responded to a follower talking about Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, one of the significant absences in the announcements. Although her universe will be present in the series Paradise Lost, there was no mention of the heroine.

“Diana is a character with such a rich cast with so much untapped potential and stories, it’s beyond past time for it to be explored. #WonderWomanAnimatedSeries”

What’s interesting is Gunn’s response to the tweet, claiming he’s working on it. Does this mean an animated series for Wonder Woman is coming up next? Gal Gadot’s future in the franchise is still uncertain, but having the character debuting in the new DCU in an animated version could be very exciting.

Although the recast of Wonder Woman hasn’t been confirmed, it seems like the most obvious outcome since Superman and Batman will also have new faces. Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck have been ruled out from their characters but could still come back playing different heroes or directing, as Affleck is rumored to be doing for The Brave and Bold.

The biggest problem with the stars of the Snyderverse is their ages because Gunn’s vision seems to include younger versions of the character, even for The Dark Knight, who will be introduced along with his son, Damian Wayne. As Gunn stated, Clark Kent will be around 25 years old. Even if Diana is an out-of-time character, they will be looking for someone to play her for a long time and in many projects.

It remains to be seen if Paradise Lost will work as an introduction to a young Diana, played by a new actress, who will later have her own movie or movie saga.
