Panelists: Tünde Skovrán (director); Andrei Zinca (producer); Sharon-Rose Khumalo (subject)

Sales Agent: Catherine Le Clef and Aleksandra Derewienko of CAT&Docs

Premieres: (Tonight) Saturday, March 11 8:30 p.m. Alamo Lamar C

Key Quotes: Skovrán: “All those intersex experiences can differ. So, Who I Am Not portrays two intersect stories, two intersect experiences. One is Sharon’s and the other one is Dimakatso Sebidi’s.”

Zinca: “The film is, I think, an invitation to a conversation about who we are as human beings from the point of view of biological sex. We are living in a very divided society, and among all of the divisions is the sex one. [There are] males and females and there is a little bit in between that is in the case of intersex people. So, almost 2 percent of the world population, secret, 2 percent of the world population not talked about, ignored.”

Khumalo: “When I discovered that I’m intersex it was a very, very lonely time and especially coming from South Africa, the first thing you go and do a Google search and it’s all people from America and different areas where they aren’t faces and voices like your own. So, this for me is just an ode to my younger self, that 21-year-old, but then also the families because this is a very deep issue that affects not just the person involved but their family as well.”

The Deadline Studio at SXSW runs March 10-13, where the cast and creatives behind the best and buzziest titles in this year’s lineup sit down with Deadline’s festival team to discuss their movies and the paths they took to get to Austin, Texas.
