World-renowned marathoner Eliud Kipchoge was in Cape Town to run the 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, and during his time in the province, he linked up with national treasure Siya Kolisi.
Kipchoge, regarded by many as the greatest marathon runner of all time, finished 16th in 2:13:29 in the highly competitive marathon.
Taking to Instagram, Kipchoge shared pictures of himself with the rugby star and shared how his interaction went and why he is truly an inspiration.
“I can say Siya is a true legend and a real inspiration on and off the field. He shows that no matter where you come from or what your background is, you can achieve great things in life through hard work, belief, and determination,” wrote the marathon runner.
Kipchoge went on to speak on the philanthropic work that Kolisi, through his foundation.
“The work Siya is doing in communities across Africa, not only through rugby but also through the incredible work of the @kolisi_foundation, brings hope to so many people. Thank you for the great morning, Siya. I am truly inspired by you, and I’m glad to say I can call you a friend now,” he wrote.
Kolisi has become a bit of a national tour guide, linking up with international stars every time they visit the Mother City. The rugby player recently had a matcha date with American actor Omar Benson Miller.
Kolisi later shared a photo of himself with Miller on Instagram, captioning it: “From California to Cape Town, hope you enjoyed our country.”
Miller responded warmly to the Springboks star, replying: “Thanks for the hospitality 🫡.”
Earlier this year, English football legend and media personality Ian Wright also visited South Africa and received a memorable welcome from Kolisi.
