It’s only been a few days since Nintendo and Sony Pictures confirmed the development of a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, but fans are already thinking about who should play the protagonists. Hunter Schafer is on many people’s list, and it seems that the actress likes the idea of playing Princess Zelda.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed that after the success of the animated The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Link would be the next popular Nintendo character to have his own adventure on the big screen, and in live-action format. Fans of the successful video game have been waiting for an adaptation for years, so they did not take long to flood social networks with possible candidates to play Link and Zelda.
Schafer, who rose to fame for her role as Jules Vaughn in Euphoria, is one of the most mentioned for the role of Zelda, so during the premiere of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Entertainment Tonight asked her if she would be interested. Fortunately for those who proposed her, Schafer not only said yes, but also declared herself as a fan of the game:
“That would be so cool. I love the game, personally. I played it as a kid and I still play it now. Who knows! That would be pretty cool.”
In addition to the obvious physical resemblance, there is no doubt that Schafer would be a good choice for the role, since she has proven to have amazing acting skills and is one of the great promises of Hollywood today.
While Schafer was, along with Anya Taylor-Joy, among the most mentioned names for the role of Zelda, the competition for the role of Link was much fiercer, especially on X.
Since the film will be produced by Sony Pictures, one of the first actors that appeared in the minds of fans was Tom Holland, who in fact recently starred in the adaptation of another popular video game, Uncharted.
But not everyone seems to be happy about the possibility of the Spider-Man star becoming Link:
Among the long list of actors that fans mentioned are Lucas Til, Jacob Tremblay, Will Poulter, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Walker Scobell, who will star in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians live-action series for Disney+. Both Poulter and Brodie-Sangster worked with The Legend of Zelda director Wes Ball in The Maze Runner saga, so they may have a little edge.
