If you thought the Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas divorce was unexpected, brace yourself: Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Jackman have separated after 27 years of marriage. For scale, that’s the same number of years Sophie Turner has lived on this earth.
“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness,” the Australian couple shared in a statement to People, which was signed “Deb and Hugh Jackman.” It continued, “We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives. This is the sole statement either of us will make.”
Hugh, 54, and Deborra-lee, 67, met on the set of the Australian TV series Corelli in 1995 and were married a year later in April 1996. They share two children: Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18.
Hugh Jackman recently celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary with an adoring Instagram post on April 11. “I love you Deb,” he wrote alongside a skyline selfie. “Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 YEARS!! I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart.”

In November, the movie and Broadway star posted an even more gushing tribute to Deborra-lee in honor of her birthday, writing, “Happy birthday to my extraordinary wife. This is the 28th time I’ve celebrated this day with you. You’ve taught me many things, including how to celebrate. Celebrate life, family, friendship and love. Your light and joy lights up all around you! The kids are I bask in that glow every day and today we pray you feel all the love reflected back at you. x I love you.”
