Well, this is it: Oscar weekend 2023. After many months of awards shows piling up on top of each other, the 95th Academy Awards finally arrive on Sunday. For months now, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” has been the top contender for Best Picture, but that doesn’t make the rest of the categories so easy to call. From crafts to the short films and documentaries, there are several key areas that make any Oscar pool into a tricky proposition. But there is still plenty of room for educated guesses.
In this week’s episode of Screen Talk, Eric Kohn and Anne Thompson discuss several of those and address the recent theories around a Best Picture upset. They also look ahead to the ceremony and why it’s almost certain to be an improvement over last year’s debacle.
For more assistance with your Oscar pool, check out Thompson’s official predictions here, our conversation about the hardest categories to predict, and additional insight into the short film categories here.
