Here’s Why Pete Davidson’s SNL Episode Isn’t Happening

Pete Davidson was supposed to make his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live this weekend, but the episode has been scrapped. And it’s only Tuesday!

No, Pete isn’t canceled or anything. For those not following Hollywood news (which, fair), the Writers Guild of America is currently on strike for a fairer contract with the studios that accurately reflects the value writers bring in the streaming age. We don’t need to get into the details here; the point is, the SNL writers are all union, ipso facto, can’t work this week. NBC will presumably air a rerun. Here, I’ll let Danny Strong explain:

They’re not the only ones! All the late-night shows, including The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Late Night With Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, are shut down until further notice (Corden’s show aired its finale right before the strike started; clever move). The only topical program still producing new episodes is Fox’s Gutfeld! Make of that what you will.

Will Lorne Michaels bring Pete Davidson back once the strike is over? Depends how long it lasts, and how badly they want to promote his new Peacock show Bupkis (it actually looks really good, IMHO). I do hope we get another Chad soon!
