HBO Max to Remove Gordita Chronicles

HBO taketh and taketh away.

Gordita Chronicles showrunner Brigitte Munoz-Liebowitz took to Twitter Thursday to announce the coming-of-age comedy series, which HBO Max canceled back in August, will be pulled from the streamer.

“Binge it one last time before our sweet little show is gone,” she said. “Thank you to everyone who loved and supported our show.”

HBO Max’s decision to cancel the series reflected its decision to move away from live-action kids and family programming in the immediate future.

Gordita Chronicles told the story of Cucu Castelli, a reporter who recalls her upbringing in the 1980’s as a willful and reluctant “gordita,” or chubby girl, whose family immigrates to Miami from the Dominican Republic.

This is hardly the first title to be removed from HBO Max as of late.

The streamer has continued to pull content left and right, including at least six HBO Max Original films, 20 original series and nearly 200 episodes of Sesame Street and various specials.

More cuts are coming as Warner Bros. Discovery plans to merge streaming platforms HBO Max and Discovery+, which is tentatively title Max, by the spring of next year.

“As we work toward bringing our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offering available on both HBO Max and Discovery+,” HBO Max said in a statement at the time. “That will include the removal of some content from both platforms.
