Hannah Einbinder Video Interview On ‘Hacks,’ Emmy Chances & Her Hollywood Career

May was quite the month for Hannah Einbinder. After five seasons, her Emmy-winning HBO Max series Hacks came to end with an emotional episode that ought to put Einbinder right back into the Emmy race, where she has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for all previous four seasons, culminating finally in a win last September. On top of this she traveled to the Cannes Film Festival, where the buzzy film in which she stars, Teenage Sex & Death at Camp Miasma, opened Un Certain Regard and drew raves (and a standing ovation). Finally, on Friday, she accepted the Critics Choice Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television’s Performance Award for Comedy at the Four Seasons ceremony in Beverly Hills.

It should be no surprise Einbinder is riding high. Since the debut of Hacks in 2021 her career has soared, and includes comedy specials (Hannah Einbinder: Everything Must Go) and another independently made movie that premiered at SXSW in March, Seekers of Infinite Love, which won top reviews (including mine) and hopefully will soon find a smart distributor to get it to an audience who will love it, and her in it.

Einbinder joins me for this edition of my Deadline video series The Actor’s Side to talk about the journey of Hacks, playing Ava Daniels and its emotional ending, and also whether there might be another chapter — maybe a Hacks movie down the road reteaming her with Jean Smart. We also talk both those hot indie movies in which she has starring roles and what the future might hold for a career definitely on an upward trajectory.

But I begin by telling her the one career moment we both have in common (hint: it involves Hacks). To watch our conversation and get the “actor’s side” of things from Hannah Einbinder, watch the video above.

Join me this season every Tuesday and Thursday for another episode of The Actor’s Side, and every Monday and Friday for a new edition of Behind the Lens.
