The death of Tony Stark at the end of Avengers: Endgame is the pivotal moment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Not only did Iron Man’s historic sacrifice bring half the universe’s population back, but it also ushered in a new era of heroes.
For some, Marvel can be broken down into a pre-Endgame and post-Endgame era, and debates rage online about whether or not the quality of Marvel’s releases has deteriorated since the blockbuster film’s release.
For one actress, however, the death of Tony Stark meant something more personal- the end of her MCU career.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s MCU Journey
Throughout her history in the MCU, Gwyneth Paltrow portrayed Pepper Potts in six different films.
The eventual wife of Tony Stark and the head of Stark Industries, Potts eventually would don Iron Man armor herself and do battle with Thanos.
Since the events of Endgame, however, Potts has not appeared again. This has led many to speculate, or perhaps pester Paltrow with questions about her MCU future.
Why Hasn’t Pepper Potts Returned?
During a Q & A that the actress hosted on her personal Instagram story, Paltrow was asked by a fan why she had stopped appearing in recent MCU projects.
While seemingly indicating that she would be open to returning, Paltrow had a fairly simple answer “Because Iron Man died”.
“Oh my god, stop yelling at me! We just stopped doing it because Iron Man died, and why do you need Pepper Potts without Iron Man? I don’t know, call up Marvel and yell at them, not me. I’m just sitting here.”
While Potts’ character was developed enough that she could easily appear in her own right, the current multiverse saga that Marvel is exploring doesn’t necessarily lend itself to her character.
Hopefully, however, the story of Pepper Potts has not been finished yet.
