Queer women of all ages should run, not walk, to watch the Girls Like Girls movie, a new lesbian teen romance now streaming on Peacock. Directed by Hayley Kiyoko, and co-written by Kiyoko and Stefanie Scott, the film is based on the music video for Kiyoko’s 2015 single of the same name. Maya da Costa, in a phenomenal feature debut, stars as 17-year-old Coley, who moves to a new town in rural Oregon the summer before her senior year, following the death of her mother. Coley is adopted by a local teen girl, Sonya (Myra Molloy), and the two girls fall into that fast-paced, heady, sexually-charged, confusing “best friendship” that most queer women no doubt remember from their teen years all too well. Make sure you watch until the end of the credits, for a little extra queer joy.
