Even the questionable approach that Gotham had with their Poison Ivy (who literally got aged up through storylines, leading to multiple recasting moves) is more digestible than what Batman & Robin did, where the powerful villainess was made into a joke. Whether it is in Batman: The Brave and The Bold or The Batman – Part II, Poison Ivy is due for a big-screen redemption where she gets to shine.
Batwoman season 3 is a solid example of how powerful and formidable she can be when the writers take her seriously, as shown through Bridget Regan’s depiction. With Batman: The Brave and The Bold being set in a reality with fantastical elements like superpowers, Gunn’s DC Universe shouldn’t have problems in fully realizing Poison Ivy’s status as one of Batman’s most challenging opponents. Even Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe could depict her in a grounded way by leaning into her status as an eco-terrorist if they were to portray her without her actual powers.
It’s also worth noting that technology has now come a long way, meaning that if they displayed Poison Ivy’s powers, it would be incredible through the VFX capability that exists today. There are also other story opportunities to explore with Poison Ivy as simply one of Batman’s big bads, whether that is the iconic romance with Harley Quinn or her role as part of the Gotham City Sirens. For now, time will tell if any of the upcoming Batman movies will give Poison Ivy a proper opportunity to fight the Dark Knight on the big screen.
