Gal Gadot Criticizes James Gunn For Henry Cavill’s Superman Exit & Wonder Woman 3 Cancellation
Not everyone is happy with how the DC Universe came together.
As DC Studios is going forward with the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” line-up, the superhero franchise is being built out across the big and small screens. However, while they are slowly growing towards the Justice League for a new era, some haven’t been in full agreement wth James Gunn’s directions.
During a new interview with the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Gal Gadot got candid about the way Wonder Woman 3 was handled, as she shared that she was initially told her sequel was going to happen, and that she would reprise her role as Diana Prince. The DCEU alum said, “They told me the opposite. They were like, ‘We’re going to develop it with you.’ But I saw the way everybody else was handled, right? The Henry situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least. Same with Patty. [It] was not handled elegantly.”
Gadot, who joined the DCEU timeline in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, expressed how “I feel like, you know, we’re all adults and it’s all good. And it’s not even about them. They are there, and they’re there to do what they believe in, and it’s all good. I’m so grateful that I got the opportunity to wear these boots and to have the character be so celebrated and be the vessel at that point in time.”
In the case of the Wonder Woman 3 movie, there were a lot of confusion following the news that DC Studios was going to go forward with a reboot of the franchise. As previous Warner Bros. regime had initially brought Henry Cavill back, this was prior to the DCU being the new strategy, as the British actor was never under contract, therefore not fired by Gunn as many have come to believe over the years.
Gunn has had to share numerous times that he was not happy about having to deliver the bad news to Cavill that they were going to go in a new direction with Superman, including tapping a different actor as the DC lead. When Happy, Sad, Confused interviewed the DC Studios co-CEO in 2025, he stated, “That was really unfortunate, I’m like, this poor guy. And so Peter [Safran] and I [knew] the right thing to do is to sit down with [Cavill] and talk to him. And we sat down, we talked to him, he was an absolute gentleman, a great guy about it. He said, ‘The only thing I ask is that I’m able to reveal it myself as opposed to it coming from you guys.’”

As far as Diana Prince’s future in the DCU is concerned, a Wonder Woman reboot is in development, but has not landed a director yet, nor a release date. The script is being written by Ana Nogueira, who also penned the Supergirl screenplay, and is also attached to write a live-action Teen Titans movie.
However, that isn’t the only Wonder Woman project that is being developed at DC Studios. While on the back burner right now, a prequel series, Paradise Lost, was also being worked on, set to explore Themyscira years before Diana’s birth.
