“That’s a baby of mine that I’ve been wanting to make for a really long time, so I’m excited about it,” Michael B. Jordan told Deadline of his take on The Thomas Crown Affair.
“I think it’s not going to be what exactly people are expecting as well. When you’re re-imagining something, it’s not a remake. It’s not a reboot. It’s a re-imagination, and I’m really excited about it because I really care about this movie and its title.”
Today, the world got to see what he was talking about, as the first trailer for the actor’s sophomore outing as a director dropped. Jordan also produces and stars in the role that Steve McQueen made famous.

The film centers on a debonair art thief (Jordan) who gos toe to toe with an insurance investigator smart enough to catch him (Adria Arjona).
The 1968 movie focused on a rich playboy who steals art. It co-starred Faye Dunaway, who played the insurance investigator who is every bit his match in a sultry game of chess.
In the 1999 Pierce Brosnan version, the protag meets his match in a detective played by Rene Russo.
Plot details on Jordan’s version are under wraps but in footage unveiled at CinemaCon earlier this year centered on a cat and mouse between the two leads as they fall for each other against a backdrop of august museums, slick cities and European castles. Jordan is up and down wires, sailing through the sky. He said he wanted to put his own spin on this version — “the style, the rebellion, but giving him a real mission. So I needed somebody who could keep him on his toes. An actress who can portray strength and vulnerability. She understands his game but falls in love with him.”
His mission in the film is personal. “Revenge is a work of art,” is one catchphrase. Kenneth Branagh is the target.
The McQueen-Dunaway film took home the Best Music, Original Score for a Motion Picture Oscar for the song “Windmills of Your Mind.” This time around, Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and eight-time Grammy winner Jon Batiste is composing the score.
The reimaging of the film, set for a March 5, 2027 release, also stars Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk and Aiysha Hart.
