Warner Bros. Pictures just announced today and has just released a first look of Oscar-winning writer/director/producer Bong Joon Ho ‘s new film titled Mickey 17. This will be his first movie adaptation and will be directed by none other than Oscar winner, Bong Joon Ho. Bong’s adaptation of Mickey7 will be his third English-language film, and his first film back since his 2019 South Korean masterpiece Parasite shattered box office records worldwide. The film will be starring A-lister Robert Pattinson who will be playing Mickey Barnes. It is based on the novel entitled Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton. The book starts off with us meeting Mickey7 so its a safe assumption that Barnes has already died six times before you even begin finishing page one.

What will the film be about?

The film will be taken from the novel Mickey7  which centers around Michael Barnes who was a historian on a planet similar to that of Earth that is falling apart. In an effort to save themselves and civilization missions begin to find other planets and colonize them. These missions bring the best and brightest as there is a limited spot on each vessel. Unfortunately that is not Barnes, there is really no need for a historian to help colonize a new planet. So Barnes has pretty much the same luck as Leonardo DiCaprio did when his character Jack Dawson won that last minute ticket to board the Titanic. Barnes gets a seat on the vessel if he agrees to become an expendable. This means that once on the new planet, Barnes would have his thoughts and personality uploaded on a regular basis to the tank and be put to task doing jobs that no one wants to do (basically suicide missions). If he dies, they clone him and upload the memories to a new Mickey and repeat.

When will it be coming out?

The film, Mickey 17 is still currently in production and is being filmed in Leavesden Studios in London, England. The filming began in August and is said to wrap December 20, 2022. It is being produced by Plan B Entertainment, Dooho Choi of Kate Street Picture Company, and Bong Joon Ho under his Offscreen, Inc. banner. The behind-the-camera creative team includes Oscar-nominated director of photography Darius Khondji  Oscar-nominated production designer Fiona Crombie from The Favourite and Cruella. Oscar-nominated editor Jinmo Yang from Parasite, costume designer Catherine George who worked on Okja and Snowpiercer, and visual effects supervisor Dan Glass for The Matrix franchise. The music is by composer Jae-il Jung who worked on Parasite and Squid Game.

Joining Pattinson are Oscar nominee Steven Yeun from Minari and The Walking Dead. Naomi Ackie from I Wanna Dance with Somebody and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. Oscar nominee Toni Collette from Hereditary and The Sixth Sense, and lastly Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo from the “Avengers” films and Spotlight. Mickey 17 will be released worldwide by Warner Bros.
