First clip for Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Deadline can reveal a first clip for Canadian director Ariane Louis-Seize’s comedy-drama Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person ahead of its world premiere in Venice parallel section Giornate degli Autori (August 30-September 9).

It is among 10 titles due to compete in the section’s upcoming 20th edition, the line-up of which was announced today.

The movie, which has already won the prize for the longest title in this year’s GdA selection, is the Montreal director’s debut feature after a number of award-winning shorts including Wild Skin, Little Waves, The Depths and Shooting Star.

It brings together an ensemble cast spanning rising star Sara Montpetit (Falcon Lake, Maria Chapdelain), big screen debutant Félix-Antoine Benard as well as Steve Laplante (Babysitter, Viking), Sophie Cadieux, Noémie O’Farrell, and Marie Brassard.

Montpetit plays teenage vampire Sasha who is too sensitive to kill. When her concerned parents decide to cut off her blood supply, her life is in peril.

Fortunately, she crosses paths with Paul (Bernard), a desolate teenager with suicidal tendencies who willingly offers his life to save hers. However, what begins as a mutual agreement soon evolves into a nocturnal journey to fulfil Paul’s final desires before the break of day.

The film is produced by Jeanne-Marie Poulain and Line Sander Egede at Canadian production company Art et Essai.

World sales and distribution in Canada are handled by Montréal-based H264. Louis-Seize is represented by Simon M. Hurdon at Omada Agency, also in Montreal.
