What better way to celebrate both the start of summer and the start of Pride month than a beach vacation to Fire Island with Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang? Written by Booster, who based the film on his and Yang’s many trips to the island in their 20s, Fire Island cleverly applies the class politics and romance of Pride and Prejudice to the modern gay dating scene. The result is a sweet, funny, and whip-smart romantic comedy about all the things there are to both celebrate and criticize about the queer community. Plus, this movie has a boatload of queers screaming and cheering and waving rainbow flags while two men kiss on the beach. If that doesn’t say “Happy Pride,” I don’t know what does!
