After the success of Sony’s feature film Uncharted, Deadline dropped the news that Sony PlayStation Productions is developing a feature-length film based on Sony’s Days Gone— Oscar nominated screenwriter and producer Sheldon Turner is set to adapt the game to the screen, and according to IMDb, Scottish actor Sam Heughan has been attached as the lead, Deacon St. John.

As a former motorcycle club member, bounty hunter Deacon fights for his survival in a post-pandemic Pacific Northwest, fending off mutated humans on the way to find his wife whom he presumed was dead. The open-world game was developed by Bend Studios and released in April 2019.

In the game, there are several factions of survivors that Deacon must interact with, including the zombie-like mutated humans known as “Freakers,” a gang of cultists, called “Rippers,” and a mysterious organization, NERO. His main mode of transportation is his motorcycle; Sam Heughan received his motorcycle endorsement in 2020, making his role as an outlaw biker a fitting choice for casting.

Heughan, 42, has been in several projects in addition to his lead role in the STARZ romantic drama Outlander, starring in The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018) as a MI6 agent alongside Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Gillian Anderson, and Justin Theroux; ex-Navy SEAL  Jimmy Dalton in Bloodshot (2020) with Vin Diesel, Eiza González, and Guy Pearce; an SAS operative Tom Buckingham in SAS: Rise of the Black Swan (2021) based on the novel “SAS: Red Notice” by Andy McNab, starring Ruby Rose, Andy Serkis, Tom Hopper, and Hannah John-Kamen; he is playing a grieving love interest in It’s All Coming Back To Me Now (2023) with Celine Dion, Priyanka Chopra Jonas; and he recently had a role as crooked police officer Ryan in Channel 4’s Suspect.

Sheldon Turner’s credits as a screenwriter include The Longest Yard (2005), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006), Up in the Air (2009) and X-Men: First Class (2011). The screenplay for Up in the Air (2009) won 17 awards for Best Screenplay, including  a BAFTA award and a Golden Globes award in those categories. He owns a production company, Vendetta Productions, with Jennifer Klein and the company is reported to be working with Sony PlayStation Productions on Days Gone.

No other cast members have been announced yet.
