Fantasia Barrino favorite memory from Season 3 of “American Idol,” is an obvious one.
“When I won. I will never forget that,” the Power of Women honoree said.
She continued, “I felt like chains had broke. Curses had broke. And I was opening the door for every girl in my family, every woman in my family.”
In an interview as part of Variety Favorites, presented by Lifetime, Barrino revealed all her favorite things from guilty pleasures to her all-times favorite performance on the reality TV series that made her a star.
“This Thing Called Love,” Barrino revealed. Why? “Because nobody expected for me to sing that!”
She also revealed her love of “The Kardashians,” citing the series as her current favorite television show. Giving a special shout-out to middle child Khloé Kardashian, inviting her to hang out sometime. “Hey, Khloé, we’re both Cancers!”
Barrino’s favorite red carpet look is a dress she once wore to the 2019 Grammys. “It was a black dress with this huge flower and I had to ride on the back of a cart because I couldn’t sit down in it. But it was fabulous. I felt like a star.”
While her favorite karaoke song is “Dream On” by Aerosmith, her favorite song to belt in the car is “Sail” by Awolnation.
“I’m about to play it in a minute. Yeah, I kill that. We should do a song together. Think about it,” she said in reference to the rock band.
Barrino’s favorite song of her own to perform is her hit, “When I See You.”
“All the men love it,” she said. “Normally all the women follow me but the men, they love that record and I like to see them get up, not be ashamed to dance and have a ball and sing. Even when they can’t sing, they sing that song.”
Barrino’s favorite piece of advice she’s ever received came from fellow R&B singer Patti LaBelle. She shared an anecdote in which LaBelle called her over at a show and said to her, “Baby, just be yourself. Don’t let this industry change you. Have fun. Quiet the noise.”
“And that’s what I’m doing,” Barrino said.
