A couple of years ago, we got the big news that the Friday the 13th franchise would continue to expand with Crystal Lake, a prequel series about the infamous campground. What would a prequel series entail? Will we learn new things about Jason Voorhees’ childhood and perhaps his psychotic mother Pamela?

Crystal Lake’s Plot

A prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise, the series follows single mother Pam Voorhees who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events are set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?
Perhaps they will reveal some lore that changes what we thought about Camp Crystal Lake and the franchise’s original players. The trailer confirms that the show takes place a little under a year after Jason’s death, which was in 1957 originally. However, it seems the show is taking some timeline liberties and bringing those events to the 1970s.
Cardellini opened up about her role as Pamela Voorhees during this year’s NBC Backlot Press Day, saying that this show gives her a firmer foundation.
“We all know where Pam ends up because she starts all the killing in the first movie. So, what Brad gave me was a beautiful beginning and somewhere to go. There’s an arc there from somebody who means well and is trying to survive. She’s doing the best that she can and fighting hard for things that she thinks are right to [becoming] somebody who then turns out to do all the wrong things. That gives me a lot of places to go. I think that dissent is very necessary,” Cardellini said.
She even hinted that she will wear Betsy Palmer’s infamous sweater from the original film.

Brad Caleb Kane, who recently brought us IT: Welcome to Derry, will be the showrunner for Peacock’s Crystal Lake TV series. He is the creator, writer, and executive producer as well. Ahead of its release, we have photos of Crystal Lake cast in action.

Crystal Lake stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees. William Catlett will portray Levon Brooks, Devin Kessler is Briana Brooks, Cameron Scoggins is Dorf, and Callum Vinson from the Chucky TV show will be a young Jason Voorhees.
Crystal Lake’s Release Date
There is no release date for Peacock and A24’s upcoming series.
