“Euphoria” Rising Star Angus Cloud Passes Away at 25

25 year old actor Angus Cloud who starred as Fezco “Fez” O’Neill in HBO’s Euphoria died on Monday the 31st of July 2023.

When first responders from the Oakland Fire Department were dispatched around 11:30 a.m. PT for a medical emergency, Cloud was determined to be “already deceased” confirmed Michael Hunt, a public information officer for the fire department. A cause of death has not yet been determined.

In a statement to the press his family wrote “It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today. As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways.”

Cloud whose father had recently passed away had intensely struggled with his loss, battling depression after burying his father in Ireland. They went on to say “Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend.”

Cloud was a beloved member of the HBO and Euphoria family and an incredible talent. Just like his character on the show, he was a sweet, kind hearted person. His cast mates and friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to him. Kathrine Narducci calls him a “Gentle, beautiful soul”, Colman Domingo calls him “Real, original and sweet,” and Paula Marshall calls Cloud “Kind and Gracious and so unique”.

In the past Cloud was open about his struggles with mental health. “People knowing me and recognizing who I am. That shit fucks with my mind for sure,” he said to Interview Magazine in 2022. “I’d rather people didn’t recognize me. I’m not mad at them because they do, but I’d rather they didn’t. I just want to have regular interactions with people. I don’t want to be treated special.”

Sam Levinson, creator of Euphoria spoke on how special Cloud was, as well as his struggles in the past. “There was no one quite like Angus,” Levinson said in a statement to Deadline “He was too special, too talented and way too young to leave us so soon. He also struggled, like many of us, with addiction and depression. I hope he knew how many hearts he touched. I loved him. I always will.”

Cloud spoke about how he was recruited to star in HBO’s hit show in 2018 in a GQ interview, “I was confused, and I didn’t want to give her my phone number, I thought it was a scam.” However Jennifer Venditti, the Euphoria casting scout who gave Cloud his big break, explained her decision to cast him in an interview with Variety. “He was not what you would expect. He has this rough, street quality about him, but he’s a very sensitive and curious and open person. Just really warm and incredible on camera. Very charming and told incredible, funny stories.”

“Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.” his family wrote.

Rest in Peace Angus Cloud.
