One of the most surprising turn of events in the MCU’s Phase 4, was the dark turn that Wanda Maximoff took.
While the Scarlet Witch lost her imaginary family at the end WandaVision, there was little indication that the character would turn into a full-fledged villain
Well, it was not only viewers who were surprised that Wanda went to such a dark place. In a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Elizabeth Olsen admitted that she was “shocked” to learn that her character would be the main antagonist in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
“I was shocked the moment they told me what it was about. I was shocked at the moment they said, ‘You’re the villain.’ No one told me until right before we shot it, so that was shocking.”
A New Side of Wanda
As it turns out, however, Olsen didn’t have a hard time portraying Wanda as a villain. She did however want to make sure that she showed a new side of the character. When asked if it was hard playing a villain, she was blunt in her answer.
“No, but I think my goal is to make sure that nothing seems like a repeated arc. I try really hard now to make it repetitive because I think that might not be fun for fans.”
Will Wanda Return?
While Wanda’s fate was left ambiguous at the end of Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen has remained steadfast that she doesn’t know what the future’s character holds.
While she has previously stated that she would love to return to the role, the actress has also admitted that after three straight years of work, it has been nice to get away from the MCU.
“I don’t miss it,” she said.
