Disney and Pixar have unveiled the first full-length trailer for their newest animated feature Elemental, starring Leah Lewis (Nancy Drew) and Mamoudou Athie (Jurassic World: Dominion), while rounding out its cast.
Others lending their voices to the pic hitting theaters on June 16th include Inside Out‘s Oscar-nominated co-director and story writer Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi (Tehran), Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs), Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek), Mason Wertheimer and Joe Pera, the creator and star of Adult Swim’s soul-soothing comedy series, Joe Pera Talks with You.
Inspired by the New York childhood of director Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur), Elemental journeys alongside an unlikely pair, Ember (Lewis) and Wade (Athie), in a city where fire, water, land and air-residents live together. The fiery young woman and the go-with-the-flow guy are about to discover something elemental: how much they actually have in common.
The trailer introduces us to Element City, where a host of elements live and work, showcasing air, earth, water and fire and what sets each element apart according to Ember. John Hoberg & Kat Likkel and Brenda Hsueh scripted the pic from a story by Sohn, Hoberg & Likkel and Hsueh. Denise Ream produced, with Pete Docter exec producing, and Thomas Newman providing the score.
Disney/Pixar also announced today that Elemental will be accompanied in theaters by the Pixar short “Carl’s Date,” which returns the beloved Up characters of Carl (Ed Asner) and his talking dog, Dug (Bob Peterson), to the spotlight. The short written and directed by Peterson and produced by Kim Collins finds Carl reluctantly agreeing to go on a date with a lady friend — but admittedly with no idea how dating works these days. Ever the helpful friend, Dug steps in to calm Carl’s pre-date jitters and offer some tried-and-true tips for making friends — if you’re a dog.
