If you’re already missing Bill Hader on your TV screen after the series finale of Barry, check out Documentary Now! if you haven’t already. Each episode of the comedy, which was created by Hader, Fred Armisen, Seth Meyers, and director Rhys Thomas, parodies pre-existing documentaries by using a similar format and subject with fictitious elements. Docs like The War Room, Grey Gardens, Wild, Wild Country, and Stop Making Sense have been parodied over the show’s four seasons. During the first two seasons, Hader and Armisen appeared in nearly every episode, often playing the main documentary subjects, but the show has racked up an impressive roster of guest stars over four seasons, including a number of SNL alums, Cate Blanchett (who’s led two episodes), Michael Keaton, Alexander Skarsgard, and celebs like Mia Farrow and Faye Dunaway, who appear as themselves. You really can’t go wrong with any episode of Doc Now!, but the final two episodes of season 1 (the two-parter “Gentle & Soft: The Story of the Blue Jean Committee”) and “DRONEZ: The Hunt for El Chingon” (also from season 1) are must-watches for fans of Hader and Armisen together.
