When The Marvels hits theaters this November, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) newest superhero team will have its work cut out for them.
Yesterday, The Walt Disney Company revealed that it spent more than $270 million making the Captain Marvel sequel, an astounding number even by Marvel standards.

Because The Marvels was shot primarily in London, Disney received a $55 million subsidy from the government of the United Kingdom. This brought The Marvels‘ budget down to a more reasonable $219.8 million.
Disney’s Uneven Box Office Results
With a budget of that size, The Marvels will need to gross at least $439.6 million at the box office to break even. While The Marvels should be able to pass that threshold, Disney has had uneven results at the box office this year.
While films like Elemental and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 were big successes for Disney, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, and Haunted Mansion struggled mightily.
Marvel’s Newest Superhero Team
The Marvels will see Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau team up to form the MCU’s newest superhero team. When the three heroes find their powers have been intertwined, they must figure out a way to work together to stop another intergalactic threat.
The film was helmed by Nia DaCosta, The Candyman director who has talked openly about her love of Marvel comics.

The good news for The Marvels is that the film will have exclusive access to IMAX theaters following the delay of Dune: Part 2.
