EXCLUSIVE: Here’s the first trailer for Disney+ Hotstar’s Masoom, the Indian remake of Irish drama series Blood. The six-part psychological thriller series, set in Falauli, Punjab, follows a daughter’s quest to unearth the truth about her mother’s death, though her family wishes to hide the truth under the garb of love and protection. “A person’s truth is never simple… it’s very twisted,” we hear in a voiceover.
Masoom debuts on June 17 as a Hotstar Special, directed by Mihir Desai and helmed by showrunner Gurmmeet Singh, stars Bomani Irani (3 Idiots) and up-and-comer Samara Tijori (Bob Biswas), who have a complex father-daughter relationship. Reliance Entertainment-owns Dreamers & Doers Co. is producing, with Manjari Fadnis, Veer Rajwant Singh, Upasana Singh and Manurishi Chaddha also part of the lead cast and Anand Bhaskar Collective creating a soulful soundtrack.
“With Masoom, we set out to create a thriller that tugs on family ties and hidden truths, a microscopic look at the lives of a family who have been tainted by secrets, forever, hoping the audience will enjoy the show as much as we did while making it,” said showrunner Singh.
Blood, on which Masoom is based, aired on Channel 5 in the UK and Virgin One in Ireland in 2018 and starred Line of Duty‘s Adrian Dunbar and Carolina Main (Unforgotten).
Disney+ Hotstar, which is the biggest SVOD service in India, has been launching originals through its Hotstar Specials brand since March 2019, finding international success through the likes of Aarya, which garnered an International Emmy nomination for Best Drama Series.
