Diego Luna Teases Andor Season 2, Reflects On “Too Perfect” Season 1

In a new interview, Diego Luna talked extensively about his experience on Star Wars sets. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Luna shared his thoughts on Andor and his character’s journey and the intensity of the filming process.

“I always had a feeling that this wasn’t gonna see the light [of day] till it did. I kept going, ‘This is too perfect. This is working,'” Luna said. “So everything just kept getting better and better, and I always had the feeling that something had to go wrong. But it didn’t. We had the freedom and the support of Disney and Lucas[film]. We had the confidence of Kathy [Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm] behind the show.”

Regarding Cassian Andor’s journey towards becoming a Rebel hero, Luna explained that although his character said he wanted to be part of the Rebellion, he wasn’t sure what that meant yet. Luna said, “We’re gonna go for four years [in Season 2], and when we find him, he’s so far away from where we left him at the end of season one. He’s basically the guy to trust for something like that mission.” The second season of Andor is set to explore Cassian Andor’s journey further.

Despite Cassian Andor’s role in building the Death Star that would ultimately kill him, Luna said that he found freedom in exploring all the different ways his character could fail and what would make him conflicted and contradictory. “All the layers we didn’t get to see in the film, I get to explore them now,” Luna said. “So it’s just a perspective kind of thing. The freedom comes from knowing exactly what he does.”
