Throughout the history of the MCU, the President of the United States has often taken a back seat to the superpowered heroes that inhabit Earth.
The most prominent president in the MCU has been Matthew Ellis, who not only handled the Mandalorian threat but also pushed the Avengers into signing the Sokovia Accords.

Ellis was succeeded by Donald Trump, who was referenced in a series of ABC Marvel shows.
Introducing President Ritson
For Secret Invasion, however, Marvel has introduced a Commander in Chief- President Ritson.
Portrayed by Dermot Mulroney, President Ritson finds himself tasked with running the country against the Skrull invasion.

While Secret Invasion will mark President Ritson’s first onscreen appearance, the character has been mentioned in the MCU before. During the events on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the President was allegedly working on a new treaty between the United States and New Asgard.
Mulroney Was Unaware of Ritson’s Backstory
Although the President of the United States had a built-in backstory, according to Mulroney, he was unaware that Ritson had been mentioned before.

“None — to the point that I’m only now, this moment, learning that Ritson had mentions in other films. That might have helped the sense of intimidation that I had about how many Marvel movies there were. I had lines learned before I’d been able to have time to watch all those movies and figure out where President Ritson fits into the Marvel Universe when somebody just could have told me, “Watch [these] movies,” and I’d have been fine. I can do movies, but I have to concentrate on figuring out the Marvel Universe at present. During that time, I couldn’t even figure that out.”
In the latest episode of Secret Invasion, the Super-Skrull Gravik was set on killing the President. He then wanted the blame to fall on the Russians.

While he was ultimately saved by Nick Fury, there were certainly be geo-political ramifications for the attack on the President. Ritson will also have to deal with the revelation that Skrulls are on Earth.
What Ritson does next, may have huge implications for both Nicky Fury and the future of MCU. With Thunderbolt Ross set to become President for Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts, the future of President Ritson is murky.
