Batfleck returns. It has now been confirmed by Aquaman star Jason Momoa that Ben Affleck will reprise the role of Bruce Wayne AKA Batman in the upcoming DC sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. And comic book movie fans are ecstatic. Taking to social media to celebrate, DC and Batman fans cannot wait to see more from Ben Affleck’s iteration of The Dark Knight.
The King of Atlantis himself, Jason Momoa, took to Instagram to reveal that Ben Affleck will reprise the role of Bruce Wayne in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Sharing a cozy image of Affleck and himself side-by-side, with Affleck seemingly in costume as the DC billionaire, Momoa wrote the following caption; “REUNITED bruce and arthur. love u and miss u Ben WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. busted on set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha.”
It seems that the revelation that Affleck will once again suit up as Bruce Wayne has only come out because the actor was spotted alongside Momoa during a Warner Bros. Tour. While it’s a shame that the secret is now out, fans have been more than happy to learn of Affleck’s continued involvement in the DC cinematic universe.
While details of how Ben Affleck will factor into Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom continue to remain under wraps, the conversation has quickly turned to the divisive Snyderverse, and whether Affleck’s return means anything regarding the studio’s plans.
Some DC fans have even noted how this random reveal regarding Ben Affleck’s return as Batman has resulted in more excitement than anything that was shown at San Diego Comic-Con.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Will Land in Theaters Next Year
Unfortunately, DC fans will have to wait a little while before finding out how Ben Affleck’s Batman return will factor into Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Plot details for the Aquaman sequel remain largely under wraps at present, though a recent synopsis does offer some clues. “When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation,” the logline reads.
The production title, Necrus, does also offer some hints at what Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom might involve. The “lost kingdom” from the title is likely to be Necrus, a name that should be familiar to DC fans. Another underwater city akin to Aquaman’s native Atlantis, Necrus is unique in that it only exists for very brief intervals of time and can never be found in the same location twice. Known as “The Black City,” Necrus is ruled over by a tyrant king and is completely militaristic, which should prove a challenge for the underwater superhero.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to be directed once again by James Wan, and will also reunite several members of the cast from the first movie, including Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Arthur’s father. The sequel has also recently added the likes of Randall Park, Vincent Regan, Jani Zhao, Pose breakout star Indya Moore, and Pilou Asbæk. And, of course, Ben Affleck.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to be released on March 17, 2023.
